Key Responsibilities
- Gains an understanding of the fiduciary roles and responsibilities of a county treasurer’s office, which operates similar to a financial or banking institution for local governments, by managing and investing public funds under state law.
- Conducts fieldwork at county treasurer’s offices throughout the State to examine compliance with the Uniform Accounting for Arizona County Treasurers (UAMACT).
- Examines the county treasurer office’s internal control framework which includes: the control environment, risk assessment, internal control activities, information and communication, and monitoring within a county treasurer’s office.
- Research best practices, laws and regulations, and other applicable resources related to the county treasurer offices under review.
- Evaluates essential IT systems, specifically for county treasurer offices financial systems.
- Helps make impactful recommendations to county treasurer’s offices to promote better government and make a positive difference.
- Follows up on recommendations annually to examine progress and determine if recommendations are implemented.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree, in finance, economics, business, business management, or a related field is required.
- Entry-level positions will involve training under senior examiners.
- Strong interest in public service and improving State government.
- Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, proficiency with computer software, and excellent communication for interviewing personnel.
- Prior experience with banking institutions, internal audit functions, or county treasurer operations (preferred).
- Must have valid Arizona driver's license.
