This audit found that the Department of
Revenue’s Collections Division could improve collections by expanding its
automated wage and bank levy programs to include matches with additional
databases, Arizona banks, and the State Lottery. In addition, the Division
should periodically evaluate the effectiveness of its debtor profiling program
and review all cases for additional collection actions prior to their statute of
limitations’ expiring. The Division should also continue working toward
accepting credit cards, expand the use of automatic withdrawals, and allow
low-risk taxpayers to establish payment plans via the phone and Internet.
