Arizona Board of Regents (September 2001, Report No. 01-27)

The report addresses the Board’s responsibilities for policy setting and oversight. The audit found that the Board has made considerable progress in addressing policy issues since the last audit in 1991. However, the Board should make some decisions regarding recommendations from the Arizona Town Hall and the Governor’s Task Force on Higher Education. Additionally, although the Board has established oversight practices with respect to university functions such as capital projects and accountability for education, it should strengthen its oversight of the universities’ information technology projects. Finally, the Board has made significant progress establishing its new distance learning program, Arizona Regents University, and will need to address additional issues as it continues to move the program forward.
